3 Reasons for Using Soy Wax to Make Candles

Hey! I'm Harry and I would like to offer you all a very warm welcome to my craft blog. I hope you enjoy my blog and that it inspires you to get involved in arts and crafts or to take up an old hobby which you have forgotten all about. I got into crafts because I was super stressed. I work in an investment bank in downtown Sydney and boy can it be stressful. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't come home and stick small pieces of coloured paper to a piece of cardboard every evening. Of course, I didn't always have this escape. Until my friend started to teach me about crafting, I really used to struggle to cope. I hope you enjoy my blog.

3 Reasons for Using Soy Wax to Make Candles

Candle making is a beautiful and exciting project for any DIY enthusiast. You can do it as a hobby or turn it into a side business with the right approach. The best part is that candle making does not require prior knowledge or any expertise. All you need are the essential supplies and a bit of creativity. One of the main supplies you need is wax, and there are a plethora of products to choose from. Soy wax is particularly popular among small-scale candle makers. Here is why you should make your candles with soy wax.

Eco-Friendly

When buying candles, the modern customer does not care whether a vendor is a small start-up or an established candle making firm; you must show that you care about the environment. Since soy wax is extracted from soybean oil, it is considered a natural, renewable, and sustainable resource. Most importantly, the wax does not contain or release any harmful chemicals into the air when burning. It is quite different from paraffin wax, which is a byproduct of crude oil refinement. Consequently, soy wax candles will sell more, especially if you focus on environmentally-conscious customers.

Better Fragrance Throw

Whether you are making candles for fun or sale, you need to focus on the scented type. While there is nothing wrong with plain candles, scented candles are much more popular, considering the variety of fragrances you can choose from. However, you should understand that different waxes have varying fragrance throw. For instance, some waxes have a longer throw, while others have a shorter throw. Since paraffin wax has a petroleum base, it has a shorter fragrance throw because the chemicals distort its scent. However, the natural oils in soy wax hold onto fragrances for longer, ensuring that the scent travels further. Moreover, the chemical bonds in soy wax are harder to break, making it easy to trap scent, even as the candle burns.

Burns Longer

More customers are likely to buy candles that burn slower since they last longer. If you make this a priority, you can feel confident that your candles will last more than a couple of days, and your customers will be satisfied. One excellent property of soy wax is that it burns slower than other types of waxes. It means that a soy wax candle can last several months, regardless of the frequency of usage.

If you are interested in adding soy wax to your candle making supplies, contact a local craft supplier.
